So I was thrilled when a work colleague presented me with this treasure trove of Saffron Milk Caps he'd foraged. The botanical name is lactarius deliciosus, and deliciosus they are. Quickly fried in butter, parsley and garlic and served with a chunk of crusty no knead bread.
The perfect savoury antidote to a chocolate filled weekend. My colleague did very kindly divulge their location, under a cone of silence, and I'm sworn to secrecy, otherwise, he WILL have to kill me. I'll be heading to this secret spot next time it rains, on a foraging stealth mission myself, well, with a little helper or two. Can't wait!
Oh michelle, how amazing and what brilliant medicinal foods these are. So rich in goodness.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know some more local areas to forage here. I used to do it my early herbal med days, must do it again...xx
Excited though I am at the thought of foraging for fungi, I am too terrified of killing myself. They look delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love that no-knead bread at the moment! I do like to make our sourdough but some days there is just not the time to knead!
ReplyDeleteFungi looks lovely....the location of these sites are closely guarded secrets. Our neighbour occasionally gives us some but won't divulge her 'spot'. Sigh..
hello! and happy easter. wow, your kids get more gorgeous by the day...adore those easter shots, and your craft! but re the mushrooms man you must have strong stomachs. (or more likely we have pathetic weak ones!) We did the oberon thing, once, the fall after moving up here. we were so freakishly ill. never, never again. isn't oberon creepy...well, where we went anyway. your post brought it all back! but lucky you finding a true tassie source :) Kxx
ReplyDeletePlease set me a place at the table - I am not going to miss that one - Yummo. Glen doesn't get my love of mushroom - more for me I say
ReplyDeletewe went foraging for nettles today for nettle soup tomorrow, which we will ironically eat with no knead potato bread. the mushrooms look fantastic! i used to go with my aunt to the forest in germany. so fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Ali... I'm always afraid I'll pick the wrong kind! :)
ReplyDeletei wish i liked mushrooms as much as i liked that no-knead bread. i try and try hoping that one day i will say "i do like them. i do like mushrooms!" the shape is ever so pleasing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBoth the mushrooms and the bread!!
We've lived in the Huon 2 years now after moving from Oberon and are really missing Saffron milkcaps. I'd love to know where to forage them here!!
