We have a new phone. It works. I love the sound of the BRRING BRRING. And that you have to wait for the dial to return before dialing the next number. You have to wait. It's refreshing. Simple. Slow. And so very nostalgic.
The children are intrigued, looking in vain for the speaker button, the LCD screen and the speed dial. It has no batteries, no recharging dock and less cables than a modern "cordless." Like I said, simple. It was $2. We like that too. Yep, we're heading back to the 20th century. Are you? Next up, a turntable I think, or maybe a betamax player.

Oh wow! How gorgeous! What a great find! We were at a friend's last week and my 11 yo old was looking at the 'play' phone, an old one such as yours. She had to ask me how to use it. It was quite a shock. It didn't occur to me that it was so foreign to her.

ReplyDeleteHaven't seen one like that for a while! I love the weightiness of those phones, too. And of course the excellent ring. Wish we had thought of this as we recently replaced a phone. The young guy in the shop told me that it was "good" that our previous cordless thingie had lasted 4 years - like 4 years was an eternity. No doubt I am turning into a grumpy old woman, but I didn't think 4 years was a particularly long life for a phone - and yours proves it. I'll bet it outlasts our plastic-y replacement one!

ReplyDeleteI once heard a child explain to another child how to use one of those phones like it was something from the dark ages, or Fraggle rock. 'Put your finger on the number you want, dial it all the way to the end and then wait for it to dial its way back, before doing it all again for the next number.' Have fun! X

ReplyDeleteI love the sound of old phones. Its hard to explain....but they just sound different. My dad now has my Grans old one - and whenever I phone him - for the first second I expect to hear her voice.
I might keep an eye out for one. I love that they keep on going even in a black-out.

ReplyDeleteYes we are getting away from high tech so to speak- just bought a foot pedal Singer sewing machine - circa 1910! Love it! Will see it up and running as soon as I can figure out a belt for it.

Loving that phone nice to know you can still ring out when the power is cut. Good for keeping those tuck shop arms at bay...remember the hand set to be quite weighty.
