As soon I woke up this morning something felt different.... what was it... I know! It's warm! The sun was shining, the sky was bright. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. Summer had finally arrived. Well, there was nothing else for it, with carefree abandon we bunked school, piled in the car and heading for the nearest beach. (Not before packing nappies, wipes, swimming nappies, swimmers, hats, towels, sunscreen, bucket, spades, picnic blanket, drinks, cups and nutritionally sound yet delicious snacks. You know how it goes!)

The car thermometer confirmed what my instincts told me - the mercury had hit a sweltering 15C ph-ew - get me to the beach!
We drove to our favourite little secret beach, known as Fossil beach by some. It was pretty crowded by Tasmanian standards, with one family of three already taking up one end of the beach. Which is just how I like it, half a beach to yourself, with the comfort of knowing someone reliable is nearby in case you get bitten by a tiger snake (no phone signal here).

we made our own rock pool

we scrambled over rocks

we got our feet wet

Miss E drew mermaids in the sand

and made funny seaweed people.
Our first visit to the beach this summer.
We're warm and tired. Sandy and happy.
Oh that looks like a perfect day. I really hope this is the start of summer. It still too much like Autumn here.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics...thanks for sharing your delightful days..xx
It was a fabulous day today! So much better than yesterday! I got to watch it go past my window at work rather sadly. Bunking off to the beach was the perfect idea. I am excited to see your stall at the market too. Quite excited about the whole thing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful time...the mermaid is special. I love playing at the beach - so many treasures to find and fun to be had.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely day you had and how beautiful is Tasmania? Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteoh beautiful. Love days at the beach - even better if you've got the beach to yourself.
ReplyDeleteYes, the doll is one of Ella's. So beautiful! Made with lots of love and the neatest hand stitching I have ever seen!
Sounds like a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Tassie summer with your family, I'm about to head off on computer-free (mostly) holidays.
Lovely photos, Looks like you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteI don't get to the beach much any more.
Living in the Blue Mountains its a bit far from the beach. :)
Ahhh, more of what is to come. Here in SA we were able to swim and spend a day at the beach - November is so nice.
ReplyDeleteThat mermaid is SO adorable. I'm in rainy, cold Oregon where winter is starting to take hold. Enjoy your summer sunshine! I think I need to move to Tasmania for six months! :)
ReplyDeleteone day one warmth...ONE MEASLY DAY!! glad to see you made the most of it :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm...feeling a little jealous. I LOVE our snow but by the end of winter I am ready for the sun. Your daughters mermaid is wonderful... A budding artist that one I think!
