A deal is a deal a friend reminded me the other day as I recalled the tale of the biodiesel agreement. Click through here to read about that tale.
I was reminded of that agreement after seeing the sweetest Land Rover for sale parked by the side of the road that morning. You see, the biodiesel project didn't work out.
Which brings me to this 1971 Series 2 Land Rover, in all it's vintage glory for sale by the side of the road. Gushing to a friend that I had seen the car of my dreams for sale, I relayed the biodiesel saga, and he remarked that well, technically, I was still owed a Land Rover.
And here he is. Percy, in all his sturdy British, vintage glory. He's not the One Ten I originally wanted, but after a lot of research, I realise it's the Series Models I love, that predate the Defender. Older, wiser and less plastic.
Percy doesn't run perfectly, the brakes are a little stiff and he leaks a little oil, but let's face it, he's a practically geriatric in car years. But he's oh so lovely, and sturdy and utterly charming.
We're not replacing our reliable everyday cars by any means. Percy is our Sunday car. The car we use for tip runs, picking up bales of straw and bags of manure and for Sunday picnic jaunts around the valley. And just hanging out the back with my peeps. We all adore Percy. He's our dream car.
Tally Ho Perce! Let's go!
What a beautiful car! Sooo much character.... Our Pajero, Tonka, doesn't have nearly as much character... but he is super reliable.
ReplyDeleteHello Heike - I think in your case reliable is a better option! Thanks for visiting - your blog is fantastic! x
DeleteHenry can't wait to go camping with his mate Percy.
ReplyDeletewe are looking at bringing him across the Strait in April.
Shall we head to Bruny?
Yes Ruth! Let's do it! x
DeleteGorgeous....love the name! My dream car is a first generation combi and when I find her I will call her Daisy!
ReplyDeleteOh! I am so jealous!! I'll trade you my 2010 Land Rover for Percy . . . . :) I didn't know the old ones were that fabulous looking. darn.
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle! Percy is absolutely gorgeous. What a wonderful car and Sunday drives are going to be very special.
ReplyDeletePercy is terrible sweet. We recently bought a 2003 and are loving having the room for all our renovating bits and pieces.
ReplyDeleteA deal is a deal & what a good deal you made!
ReplyDeleteYou lucky duck.
ReplyDeletePercy is a handsome chap.

Lovely! Quite a few like that here where we live in Somerset, usually filthy, battered, holey, or with bits of home welding in evidence, mad-eyed collies glaring out of the back. They're very thirsty machines, but they go on for ever, and seem to manage whatever they are asked to do! Enjoy yours - characterful new cars are impossible to find nowadays.
ReplyDeleteI just love your description Rachel, I must get a mad-eyed collie immediately! x
DeleteLove the car!! We are a 5 Landrover family and huge fans of these fab 4WD's! We owned a Series 3 for 15 years and carted our tribe of seven all over the country side, complete with prams, baby seats and bags! Now we own a Defender (and two sons own some too) not as cute but still cool.
ReplyDeleteMy son wonders if you have the Series right…are you sure it's not 2A? He reckons the Series 2's finished production in 1961.
Um, yes your son is right, Percy is a 2a, I let the a slip, should have known better! Your adventures in you Landy sound wonderful! x
DeletePercy is fabulous! Love him!
